Day 4 - The Great Wall of China, Ming Tombs & Dinner with Dr Zhang

中国真好!我想应该用中文写,这样才比较authentic的!

我今天去长城。长城很冷,风吹得很大。

长城很壮宽,总共大约2000公里。

我想成为个revolutionary。

这是我家人。

I saw this queer dude. This is a real cowboy!

Note: 其实我有很多错别字,幸亏我的朋友,欣芸,改了我! (: 也谢谢Kelvin the Wushu man. I should know better than to show my noob Chinese blog to these Hwachu people!

hey bro! wow...great photos. I love your photojournalistic style and the colours of your shots. did u PP them much? i'm guessing its more to do with the usage of good glass (:

but a question, the photo with the calligrapher and your family...was the shadow caused by a lens hood when u used the pop up flash? :p

Thanks shangjun.

PP only some cropping. The EF-S 10-22mm 3.5-4.5 USM gives nice colours and saturation, sometimes a little bit on the reddish side though. the blues of the Great Wall is really because the skies were very blue.

The shadow was caused by the big 77mm diameter of the EF-S10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens, with popup flash used. To reduce the extent of it, I try to shoot at 22mm when using flash.

Apart from that, most cases of flash usage was for fill on for people, and the bottom of the frame is either not important, or has its exposure taken care of already (eg. bright sun backlighting).

i love the shot with the great wall behind and just your family's heads in the foreground. you violated the rule of thirds but to great effect. somehow, really unexpectedly, it looks balanced and really cheerful. great stuff (:

Haha. I never thought of it that way. Only saw it as a happy random photo of me and my family. Can see the Great Wal, can see our great smiles.

And if you could see me asking mom to hold the tripod - you'd really have had a laugh.
